In the modern world urban environment is almost always subject to a high level of environmental stress due to the growth of technical equipment of enterprises, use of urban areas, dense development of residential areas, the development of the transport infrastructure and industry. These factors create acoustic pollution of the environment, which in recent decades has become a serious problem in cities with a high concentration of population - according to estimates, in Russia about 40 million people live in noise discomfort.

Acoustic impact is the most aggressive technogenic factor with a broad emission field, a long exposure time and quite difficult screening. The current acoustic situation in most cities of Russia is regarded as “critical” and considered as an uncontrollable threat to public health and environment. About 60% of all complaints about physical factors impact are those about acoustic impact, in some regions the number exceeds 70%. In many Russian cities, zones of acoustic discomfort in residential areas are increasing year by year; the acoustic situation is rapidly deteriorating in dense urban development and increasing intensity of road traffic.

Do you feel the need to gain knowledge of a risk-based approach to managing environmental safety? Do you want to learn how to use health risks from noise exposure in forecasting adverse situations, territory zoning and design? The course "Assessment and management of health risks from the acoustic impact of transport" can help you to solve these problems. Within the course you will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for enhancing professional competencies in the field of environmental risk management (health risks) from the negative acoustic impact of transport, you will know the interdependence between human activities, environment and human health, as well as economic mechanisms to anticipate risk situations. You will be able to rank and classify transport infrastructure objects by the possibility of risk situations, determine the technogenic factors that cause risk situations and assess the environmental and hygienic consequences of urban transport impact, develop measures to reduce them.

The course "Assessment and management of health risks from the acoustic impact of transport" is essential for:

- local government specialists. It will help in making risk-oriented management decisions about risk situations and justifying financial support for priority measures to protect the environment and human health. It will give the opportunity to assess the feasibility and the effectiveness of environmental measures aimed at reducing noise exposure, to improve general planning of cities and settlements, development of transport infrastructure, as well as the adoption of legal acts and regulatory documents;

- specialists of the department of architecture and urban planning. Within the course you will learn to use risk-based approach in decision-making on urban planning, in the development of effective architectural, planning and design solutions to ensure environmental and hygienic safety, to use knowledge about the health risks from noise impact in the analysis and evaluation of buildings and structures, as well as other elements of the artificial environment habitat, in the development of transport infrastructures;

- heads of environmental services of industrial enterprises, road-building organizations and transport enterprises. It will give the necessary knowledge to manage the road designing, develop noise protection measures in areas adjacent to roads, predict adverse noise impacts considering the perspective of increase in traffic intensity, use in the development of the “Noise protection” section of project documentation;

- specialists of design and construction enterprises. The course will provide knowledge for choosing areas for safe and long-term house construction, estate property pricing and hedging, territory zoning with defining high-risk areas and developing appropriate architectural, construction and planning measures to reduce noise impact and health risks; as well as knowledge for using risk-oriented approaches in planning safe playgrounds and recreation areas, taking into account acoustic pollution of the urban environment.

The course is prepared by experts of "Resources and Consulting" and held on the platform of the State Academy of Industrial Management named after N.P. Pastukhov (go to the course).

The course is based on 10 years of experience in assessing health risks. Works in this area are carried out by the certified Center for Risk Assessment, within the Research and Designing Institute "Cadaster" (Yaroslavl, Russia).
