Environmental Atlas of Yaroslavl Region

«Environmental Atlas of Yaroslavl region»*, published for the first time, represents integrated scientific-referential collection of information and data that demonstrate environmental condition of the region and measures on its improvement. The Atlas, based on the wide scientific data provided by organizations and stakeholders, is the collection of materials — cartographic, aerospace, statistical, textual, illustrative. In visual form it reflects a complex of environmental problems of the region. Compilation of the atlas is based on a systematic approach realized by principles of geographic mapping that envisages integration, adequacy of reproduction of spatial structure, reflection of external and internal interactions, dynamics and functioning of natural and natural-anthropogenic territorial formations. The Atlas represents a collective product of various fields of knowledge: geography, ecology, biology, hunting, medicine, history, paleontology, statistics, economics, sociology, cultural science, cartography, etc. The Atlas consists of three chapters, logically presenting general information and environmental condition of various components of the environment and natural resources of the region, environmental changes and main aspects of increasing environmental sustainability of the region.

The Atlas is of interest for scientists, specialists institutions and organizations whose activity is connected with research and assessment of the state of the environment of Yaroslavl region and the Russian Federation in general, identification of ways for its improvement, as well as with the development and implementation of effective environmental policy at the nationwide, regional and local levels of management. The Atlas might be a useful aid for environmental education and enlightenment. It provides topical information for everyone who is interested in the problems of sustainable development of the region.
