Doctor of Geographical Sciences (specialty - economical and recreational geography), Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Member of the Scientific and Technical Council of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, member of the writing team of "Europe's Environment Assessment of Assessments", a regular participant in the meetings of the working group of the European Commission on Environmental Reporting, a member of the "Russian Professorial Meeting".

An expert in the field of interdisciplinary studies of trends in interaction creation in the system of relations "Nature - Society - Human." The main field of scientific interests concerns the institutional basis of sound environmental management and environment protection, analysis of sociocultural features of decision-making, management of environmental risks as the most important factors of environmental modernization of society.

Professional interests: (1) Improvement of the methodology of interdisciplinary ecological-socio-economic and geographic researches in order to solve urgent problems of interaction in the system of relations "Nature - Society - Human", as well as institutional analysis of environmental changes; (2) researches in the field of sociocultural restrictions and regulations in decision-making process in the environmental sphere, socio-cultural measurements, and teleological (goal-setting) issues in the field of environmental management; (3) study of environmental and health risks in the context of sustainable development, and the development of a methodology for analyzing the resilience and vulnerability of anthropogenic geosystems; (4) he problems of the transition of the industrial economy to the stage of "green growth" with an orientation toward sustainable development; (5) improving the methodology for the economic evaluation of natural resources and ecosystem services; (6) improvement of indicators of sustainable development, environmental indicators and indicators of the green economy, the system of national accounting and natural-economic accounting, as well as methods for their mapping.

Research advisor of projects on the instructions of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Rosstat, Rosprirodnadzor on the development of the framework for the transition to green growth, the introduction of economic mechanisms for public administration in the field of environmental management and environmental protection, the development of environmental and economic indicators, the development of a methodology for assessing environmental damage.
